Farona as foster mother © Jenny Lees (Pearl Island
Arabians) 1998
A bay Arabian mare born in 1973, seen here in 1998 still enjoying life at 25 looking after an adopted foal. She was our first pure Arabian mare purchased aged 15 on retirement (sound!) from Endurance.
Farona has been a successful Endurance horse, competing at the highest level in the early eighties. She was second in the Arab Marathon as a 6 year old, covering the 26 miles in 1 hour 32 minutes. She wa around 15 hands high, and a very tough but gentle horse. Three of Farona's offspring competing in 2004 at international level are Delorto Zaranz, Franzara and Falaina Bint Chatanz..
She was by the famous show stallion Fari II, who is sire and grand sire of numerous show and performance Champions. Farona's dam, Barcelona (by Doktyner) was bred at Michalow stud in Poland. She was a successful racehorse in Poland. She bred several foals, most of which were exported, but of those remaining in this country were the exceptional show brood mare Santa Maria, the grade 1 racehorse Treeyews Polish Count and the marathon horse Treeyews Blue Period.
